Meet Riven is built around meaningful conversations.

Unlike many apps, people often share personal thoughts, emotions, memories, goals and life experiences with Riven. Because of that, protecting your privacy isn't just a legal requirement—it's one of the foundations of our product.

This Privacy Policy explains:

  • what information we collect;
  • why we collect it;
  • how we use it;
  • who we share it with;
  • how long we keep it; and
  • the choices and rights you have regarding your personal data.

We've written this policy in plain language because we believe privacy should be understandable, not hidden behind complicated legal terminology.

Meet Riven is an AI companion designed to help people build meaningful, supportive conversations through artificial intelligence.

For the purposes of applicable data protection laws, Meet Riven is the data controller responsible for the processing of your personal data.

2. Information We Collect

To provide Meet Riven, we need to collect certain information about you and your use of the service.

We only collect information that is necessary to operate your account, provide conversations with Riven, improve your experience, and fulfill our legal obligations.

The information we collect depends on how you use Meet Riven.

Most of the information above is provided directly by you when creating an account or using Meet Riven.

Some technical information is collected automatically by your browser or device to make the service function correctly, such as maintaining secure sessions, delivering notifications and remembering basic preferences.

Meet Riven does not intentionally collect more information than is necessary to provide the service.

Conversations with Riven

Your conversations with Riven are personal.

Messages you send are stored as part of your conversation history so that you can continue previous conversations and Riven can respond with appropriate context.

To make conversations feel more natural over time, Meet Riven also creates a concise memory summary of important information you choose to share.

You remain in control of this information and can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information only to provide, maintain and improve Meet Riven.

Specifically, we use your information to:

  • create and manage your account;
  • authenticate you securely when you sign in;
  • generate conversations with Riven;
  • remember important context from previous conversations;
  • deliver daily check-ins if you enable them;
  • send push notifications if you choose to receive them;
  • manage subscriptions, trials and billing;
  • respond to support requests;
  • protect the security and reliability of Meet Riven;
  • comply with legal obligations where required.

We do not access your conversations unless it is necessary to provide support, investigate technical issues, prevent abuse, or comply with applicable law.

What we do not do

We believe it's just as important to explain what we don't do.

Meet Riven does not:

  • sell your personal information;
  • use your conversations for advertising;
  • build advertising profiles about you;
  • share your personal data with advertisers;
  • use your conversations to train AI models;
  • access your conversations unless it is necessary to provide the service or required by law.

AI-generated responses

Meet Riven uses artificial intelligence to generate responses during conversations.

To generate a reply, your latest message, recent conversation history and a concise memory summary may be securely processed by our AI provider.

This information is processed solely for the purpose of generating AI responses and providing the Meet Riven service. It is not used by Meet Riven to train artificial intelligence models.

4. Sharing Your Information

We only share your information with trusted service providers when it is necessary to operate Meet Riven.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

The third-party providers we currently use are:

Supabase

Supabase provides secure authentication, database services and cloud infrastructure for Meet Riven.

Your account information, conversations, memory summaries and application settings are securely stored using Supabase.

OpenAI

Meet Riven uses OpenAI to generate AI responses.

When you send a message, only the information necessary to generate a relevant response is shared. This may include:

  • your latest message;
  • recent conversation history;
  • a concise memory summary;
  • the system instructions used to operate Riven.

Meet Riven does not share your email address, payment information or subscription details with OpenAI for the purpose of generating responses.

Customer content processed through the OpenAI API is not used to train OpenAI's models, in accordance with OpenAI's API data usage policies.

Stripe

Payments are securely processed by Stripe.

Meet Riven does not receive or store your full credit or debit card information.

Stripe processes payment information in accordance with its own Privacy Policy.

We carefully choose the companies we work with and only share the minimum amount of information required for them to perform their services.

If we introduce additional service providers in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

5. Data Retention

We keep your personal information only for as long as it is necessary to provide Meet Riven, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

Different types of information are retained for different periods of time.

When you permanently delete your Meet Riven account, we permanently remove your personal information from our active systems, including your conversations, memory summaries and application data.

Some limited information may remain in secure backups for a limited period as part of Supabase's standard backup and disaster recovery procedures. These backups are automatically overwritten after their retention period.

Certain financial records may be retained for longer where required by applicable tax or accounting laws.

Where technically and legally possible, deleted information is removed from our active systems without unnecessary delay.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of the third-party providers we work with may process personal information outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

Where this happens, we take appropriate measures to ensure your information remains protected in accordance with applicable data protection laws. These measures may include the use of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or other legally recognized safeguards.

We only work with providers that are committed to protecting personal information.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), these rights include:

  • the right to access your personal data;
  • the right to correct inaccurate information;
  • the right to request deletion of your personal data;
  • the right to restrict certain processing;
  • the right to object to certain processing;
  • the right to data portability;
  • the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

At Meet Riven, we believe you should stay in control of your information.

You can already:

  • permanently delete your account;
  • stop receiving daily check-ins;
  • disable push notifications through your device settings.

As Meet Riven evolves, we may introduce additional privacy controls to give you even more control over your data.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your personal data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

For users in the Netherlands, this is the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

8. Security

Protecting your information is one of our highest priorities.

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to help protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse or disclosure.

These measures include, where appropriate:

  • encrypted connections (HTTPS);
  • secure authentication;
  • protected database access;
  • role-based access controls;
  • trusted infrastructure providers;
  • regular security updates.

We regularly review our security practices as Meet Riven continues to evolve.

While we work hard to protect your information, no online service can guarantee absolute security. We therefore encourage you to use a strong password and keep your login credentials confidential.

9. Children's Privacy

Meet Riven is intended for individuals who are at least 16 years old.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 16.

If we become aware that personal information has been collected from a child under 16 without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information as soon as possible.

10. Changes to this Privacy Policy

Meet Riven may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the service evolves or legal requirements change.

When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, notify you through the application or by email.
